Drugs are bad.

We all know that, and not matter what justification one makes, they will always have long or short term effects; Addiction, Heart problems, Death. People know this and still do them. Doing some of the "weaker" drugs like weed will inevitably result in the harder drugs like heroin.

What do you do with a freind who is doing drugs? when you cant get it into their head that they should stop, they keep giving reasons that they should carry on, each reason worse than the last. What do you do when you know that they are the sort of person who will get addicted, they will end up on the harder drugs, and they will end up fucking their life, unless someone stops them. What do you do when you cant stop them?

what have i done? i've ignored them.

It cant be the right tactic, look at amy winehouse, she got even worse.But i dont know what to do short of being with them 24/7 and stopping them from ever getting near drugs. But that wont work, for one it's massively heavy handed, i'm not their only freind, and i get massively uncomfortable among alot of people. It's also a little creepy...

i dont know if i'll ever be able to talk to them until they look into my eyes and tell me that that will never do drugs again, i want that confirmation. I dont want to see them screw up their life, i know it isnt heavy usage now, but that can change very quickly, and i want to see them stop now, whilst they can.

As I'm sure you all know, Fathers Day is this Sunday(?), and I'm sure you're all busy wrapping presents for your Daddy. Personally, I don't have the money, but I'll get a him a card, not that the present I'm (not) getting is what I want to talk about today.

No, what I wish to talk about is my family, particularly my Dads side. My Grandparents divorced years before I was born, but in the early '60's my Grandmother was a baby producing machine, having a baby every year for 4 years, from 1960 to 1964. My Dad, whom my middle name is attributed to, is the second born, and the second son, his older brother Colin was logically the first born in 1960. The youngest son was my Uncle Kevin, followed by the youngest of the family and only daughter, Tina.

Amusingly, I find the attributes of each child of my grandparents gets progressively to my distaste compared to the position they were born in. My Uncle Colin has always been quite laid back, he seems happy in his job as an ambulance driver, if not particularly pleased with his pay check every month. He has 2 daughters of his own, and was a father figure to the son my aunt had in a previous relationship, all 3 of whom appear to have similar personalities to him, even if they wont like me saying so. Only one of them is still in school. My Dad, happens to earn the most out of the 4, and as he has aged and learnt from his experience leaving my Mum, he has become less stubborn, and more likable as a person, indicated by his bigger social life, almost completely gained from his new partner. Uncle Kevin is the typical "weird uncle" of the family, he has no children of his own, but is in a long term relationship with a woman who has 2 children both of which are past GCSE age. His viewpoints are politically incorrect, and he portrays himself as quite racist, however i do sense a bit of uncertainty when he says things of such manner, suggesting he may be saying things to gain "respect" from his family. My only Aunt, on my Dads side, is hard to describe singularly, she comes as a package with her immediate family, 2 post education children, an older girl (woman?) and the younger guy, and a girl whom will start secondary school next year, plus her husband. They are very quick to pass judgement on someone, and do express a distaste towards my family, particularly the way they feel me and my sister get off "Scot-free" with stuff, and i suspect they look at my badly for leaving school early, however i am yet to see how they will react towards me doing GCSEs. They have been described by certain people as the "stepford family", because they get along so well, they appear to be perfect, the children don't/didn't bicker and they express dislike in people whose family is not the convention. I don't particularly like my Aunts family much...

The reason i write all this is because there is a big meeting of my dads family for fathers day this Sunday, and this means we all get to meet up. As i say, I'm yet to see how my aunt reacts to my exam taking, and the fact i will have to leave early because i have one final exam on Monday morning. I will find it amusing to see what happens, not that i particularly want their respect or anything, i think it will be interesting if they treat me differently to how they have in recent years.

A friend of mine has started going out with a boy recently, and I'm feeling alot of emotions over the matter. I'm not sure what they are though, jealousy? Anger? Annoyance? i dont know... she seems alot more distant than she used to be, and is always with her new boyfreind, whenever i text her or message her she immediately dismisses any coversation by saying her boyfreind is with her. i know it's a new relationship and this period will likely be over soon but it still annoys me.

I've met her boyfreind, he's a nice enough guy but i think he's changing her. I can never say he's changing her for the better or worse, because it's a point of view, but if i'm being honest, i dont like the more distant version of her. I suppose it's selfish to want her to go back to the way she was 3 weeks ago, if she's happy then that's all i could want for her.

I know she reads this blog, and i want her to know that as much as i respect your need for a partner and happiness, but dont forget your freinds, because we'll always be with you, and we dont want you to change into a different person.

After reading up on emotions, i think i understand the feelings i have, it's jealousy. Now, dont confuse jealousy with envy, it's slightly different, if i quote wikipedia:

knowing this has allowed my rational brain to reconsider the idea, and i know that new relationships are generally intense and the time they spend together will be less and less as the weeks go on they will see each other less, or the time they do spend together will be less "kissy kissy" and more "make me a cup of tea please". Either that or they'll break up, which is a distinct possibility for any relationship.

I'm sitting here, right now, watching an episode of Come Dine With Me which i have seen about 4 times, on my own, in a cold, large house in the middle of nowhere, in Kent. Why am I here, I hear you ask? Because I'm looking after Chickens for my Dad. Chickens and a dog.

He's at a wedding, y'see. not that I particularly care where he is, I've mainly been playing the new Pokemon Platinum, which is fun, I guess. It's obviously very similar to Diamond and Pearl, essentially being a remake with extra things, Like how Yellow and Crystal were. I have noticed a MASSIVE increase in difficulty, however. Whenever I start a brand new pokemon game I choose the water pokemon, in this case Piplup, and I didn't struggle with the first gym, as I had the type advantage. Normally, by the 2nd gym I've normally gotten my starter Pokemon to a high enough level that I could beat any type of Pokemon with little fuss. However, this time I lost against the gym leader, who had the type advantage, about 4 or 5 times. This resulted in me having to spend about 30 minutes levelling up another pokemon to beat the gym leader.

This is surprisingly odd for a pokemon game, as you can normally get enough of a level advantage within about 2 hours of playtime. I beat my first run through of Pokemon Pearl in 18 hours, in Platinum, I currently have 5 badges, and 14 hours of playtime...

i had a very heated argument with a freind today. he showed me the answers to the Maths GCSE we did. I said i had gotten about 70% in it and he, although he didnt say it explicitly, essentially said that it was rubbish...

FFS you bastard, 70% is a great score, it's more than enough for a pass, and it's respectable. I know the reason why he thinks that, it's because his school, the one i used to go to has put it into his head that anything less than an A* is not acceptable, which is just bullshit AND it is not good for the people involved. it streses them and can affect them mentally in years to come, heck, it affected me whilst in the school, it's one of the reasons i left halfway through a year.

i find it arrogant to beleive that, and it shows that you have no reasoning ability, you cant just pass it off as exams getting easier, because once again that's bullshit. it's the tabloids being annoyed that the younger generation are cleverer. There is little to none practical difference between an A* and a B in the real world, and dont call someone stupid for getting it.

Expensive expenses

I do find this expenses row happening at the moment very annoying. not because MPs are claiming for silly things, because i dont think they are really claiming for massively silly things. What i find annoying is all the press (particularly the right-wing press) sensationalising it all. It is reported by the independant that Gordon Brown paid his brother £6000 from expenses (at least thats what they're trying to convey). but thats utter bullshit! He hired a cleaner through his brother, you would need to look at the circumstances for why he couldnt pay the cleaner directly, but i highly doubt he went through his brother so that his brother got money from the "tax-payer"

i will admit that the MPs husband that claimed for porn is a fucking idiot, but most of the expenses are genuine expenses, hotels, business meals, etc...

I was watching BBC Breakfast this morning, and they had this old woman on, i cant remember her name, but i've seen her on there before, and i really dislike her! She consistantly has no real argument, misquotes and goes off in stupid tangents that are completely unrelated to the subject being discussed. it appears to me that the only reason she goes on is to badmouth Gordon Brown and the labour party. For instance, this morning she highlighted a case in the independant of someone claiming £16000 on a wetroom, she didnt know what a wetroom was, and lambasted it as if it was something stupid. She is a fucking idiot. I must admit that i didnt know when she brought it up, but before writing this post, i checked for what a wetroom is. It turns out that it's basically an open bathroom, which is not a stupid thing, my Great-Grandmother had one made for her when she was severely disabled. You shouldnt go on TV debating a serious politcal thing and attack things which you dont know the meaning of. she also mentioned the recent problems the government has been having with the ghurkas, which is completely out of place in a debate about expenses.

writing this post has really made me want to write an email to BBC Breakfast asking them why they chose/choose this person to talk about subjects like this.

I bought the Total War Mega Pack this saturday off of steam, and I've played about 5 hours of Rome: Total War. It seems to be a good game, and everyone knows putting an army of 300 against an army of 1500 AND winning is good fun, but I've noticed a few things which are very bug-bearish.

The first thing I noticed about the game was the tax system. I never really know why I'm getting the tax I'm getting, I know how to change the tax rate from low to high, and I know how this changes the way the citizens of the city like you, but I never really know why I have to change it, it's not clearly explained in the tutorial, and because I got my version from Steam, I have to get the manual from the interwebz, and most of the games I've tried to get the tutorial off of the interwebz via Steam have not worked...

The Second thing I've noticed is the camera angle in the fights. It's very hard to manage 8+ groups when you cant see them all. I noticed this particularly when fighting on a hill, I have 2 groups of cavalry flanking the enemy, archers trying to pinpoint paticular enemy units, whilst the melee fighters finding the perfect time to attack and take over from the archers. You can't see them all and you can't control them all, it's very fustrating.

The game is fun, however, and I am waiting for Empire: Total War to finish downloading, considering it's the latest title, it should have these bugbears sorted out

I download alot of podcasts, and one podcast i particuarly like is the Collings And Herrin Podcasts.

I find the comedy hillarious and i reccomend you listen to all of the episodes... All 80 hours or so...

Yeah, it's alot to listen to, but i think you'll find it quite amusing...

I upgraded my interwebz yesterday, and this enabled me to upload the video i made on L4D a few days ago. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures when we were playing, so the 2 in the previous blog were the only ones... ohwell...

Also, i'm not gonna review it proper, but i'll write what i think about it, before i do that, please watch the video:

Survival mode is much more fast paced than campaign or versus mode, it is essentially a constant version of the panic events, the ones that normally last about 1 minute after you activate something to advance through the level. That means there's always a zombie to kill.

The special zombies are much more prevalent in survival, Whereas in the previous modes, a special zombie could only really kill you if your team were fucking idiots, in survival, a smoker tongue could destroy your team. And there's rarely only one smoker tongue in play at a time :P

The tanks are much weaker in survival, but that's to be expected, considering that you can have as many as 3 tanks in the game at one time, although you're unlikely to reach that time.

This is annoying not only because I cant show you, my imaginary readers, the video, but also because we really should be getting 10meg, not the measly 2meg we get now. That's because virginmedia no longer supply 2meg broadband (if you can call it broadband) and they have told all their customers that they're upgrading them. However, they havent upgraded me, the bastards...

Survival of the fittest...

I'm sure you know that left 4 dead has a new mode out called survival. It's been out for about a week now, and i've not played much, mainly because i know that you would fail if you werent with a group of freinds.

Therefore, i've organized with a few freinds to play for a solid 2 hours tonight, and i'll be taking pictures and videos. I'll write up about what i think of the new mode and anyone who happens to come upon this page will be able to read it :P

I've Tried in my time to do a proper blog, but i've never been able to keep up, therefore, i'm just going to do what people like him, him and him do, which is post about things which see, news, if you like to see it like that. No one will read this for months, so i may aswell not tell you what will be in it, but it'll probably be mainly gaming news, maybe a bit of TV news all that sort of thing :)
